General
James Longstreet
left the camps near Fredericksburg to visit the open
house at Clios History Bookshop in Leesburg,
Virginia, on December 13. Twenty Civil War authors
were on hand to talk war with the
general. There was a great turnout! If you didn't
make it this year, make a note to check the date next
year. [Details, click here]
Only three
entrants in the last TRIVIA
CONTEST
knew that John Singleton Mosby is the Southern
officer mentioned most often in Lee's dispatches.
(Could be because he reported directly to Lee for a
period of time.) The first three correct answers each
week earn a copy of the 1998
edition of
Jack Burd's Civil War Source
Book. This edition is nearly twice the
size of the 1997 book with nearly 3,000 entries.
DO
YOU KNOW, that
the person with the most correct answers between now
and January 18, 1998 (the closing of contest #20),
will win his or her choice of ANY title in our
catalog,? Yes, indeed! So it is worth your while to
guess! [Details]
By the way,
contest #18 will run until January 4, 1998, because
the webmaster is decamping for the holidays. Prior
contestants will be reminded by e-mail when the race
is on again.
We are
hosting the homepage for the Order of Southern Gray, a womens Southern heritage
organization in Virginia. We invite you to visit the
new site and become familiar with this group.
Weve
added a CW Events page and have a few events listed.
Details will be added as we get them. Let us know if
your group has an event coming up, and we'll be
pleased to include it.
Have you
received a copy of the new Rockbridge

Since we no longer send our catalog via e-mail, we
plan to distribute the newsletter around the
beginning of each month, give or take a few days.

place to start surfing more more information about
the war! We're checking the links to insure they are
current and accurate. If you experience any
difficulty, please let us know.
If it has been
a while since you visited our pages, youll
notice a change in format. Each section of our web
site now has a link to the left on this and several
of the main pages. Were trying to give you the
ease of navigation found with frames, but without
making you wait for frames to load. Let us know how
you like the new approach.
